Appeal for Fa-arau Village

For over two weeks now the village of Fa’arau in the Solomon Islands has been cut off from the outside world due to the devastating deluge of torrential flood waters that have destroyed the only road into the town of Alki. Several sections of the road mainly at the creek crossings have been completely washed away making them impassable for trucks and people.

The township of Alki is really the only close by source of food and employment for the village people. I have heard stories of some people that are trekking several kilometres through the dense jungle and through rivers in order to walk to Auki to buy their food.

Also affected and destroyed by the floods was their mountain vegetable gardens. The gravity of this loss becomes more apparent when you realise that the village people have no jobs or very little money to buy their own food.

The Solomon Island government has no funding to maintain or repair their road and its repair will be left to the village people to fix for themselves and will require the use of heavy road machinery due to the extent of the damage which they have no access to.

There are no international aid agencies on the ground to help the village people so can we ask for your kind assistance please?  You can make your donation using the donate link on the Generation Fire website, thank you
