Nepal Flash Flood Appeal

Flash Flood Appeal

Flash flooding in Nepal has devastated communities across multiple provinces, sweeping away homes, damaging roads and bridges, crops and livestock, and leaving thousands displaced. Intense, sudden downpours—linked to an unusually heavy monsoon season and glacial melt in higher elevations—have caused rivers to breach their banks and triggered landslides on steep slopes, compounding the destruction. Remote and rural populations are especially vulnerable: many villages are cut off, communication networks are unreliable, and access to clean water, medical care and shelter is limited.

Immediate needs

  • Emergency shelter and warm, dry bedding for displaced families.

  • Clean drinking water, water purification tablets and safe sanitation to prevent waterborne disease.

  • Urgent medical care, trauma treatment and supplies, and support for preventing outbreaks.

  • Food assistance and ready-to-eat meals for families who have lost crops and food stores.

  • Search and rescue equipment, transport for isolated communities and fuel for relief operations.

  • Temporary repairs for damaged roads and bridges to restore access for help and supplies.

Longer-term needs

  • Rebuilding homes and community infrastructure with resilient, flood-aware designs.

  • Livelihood support for farmers and herders: seed, tools, livestock replacement and agricultural training.

  • Mental health and pastoral care to help trauma recovery and community resilience.

  • Disaster risk reduction: early-warning systems, reforestation, riverbank stabilisation and community preparedness training.
